Drug Classification

• Non-selective Beta Blockers: These block both Beta₁ and Beta₂ receptors. Examples include propranolol and nadolol. They can cause bronchoconstriction, so they are generally avoided in patients with asthma.
• Cardioselective Beta Blockers: These primarily block Beta₁ receptors in the heart and are safer for respiratory conditions. Examples include metoprolol and atenolol.
• Beta Blockers with Intrinsic Sympathomimetic Activity (ISA): These have partial agonist activity and may be preferred in patients who experience bradycardia with other beta blockers. Examples include pindolol and acebutolol.

• Advise patients with diabetes to monitor for less obvious symptoms of hypoglycemia, as typical symptoms may be masked.
