- ๐ Beta-lactam antibiotic, resistant to bacterial lactamase.
- ๐ฏ Narrow-spectrum bactericidal agent.
โ๏ธ Action
- ๐ Inhibits cross-linking of peptidoglycans in bacterial cell wall.
- ๐ฆ Active against penicillin-sensitive infections, endocarditis, osteomyelitis.
๐ Indications / Dose
- ๐ฆ Staphylococcal infections: cellulitis, impetigo, surgical wounds, pneumonia, osteomyelitis, endocarditis.
- ๐ Otitis externa.
- ๐ฆ Mild infections: 250โ500 mg PO 6-hourly, taken 30 minutes before food.
- ๐ฅ Moderate/Severe infections: 500 mg โ 2 g IV 6-hourly.

- โ ๏ธ May reduce effectiveness of oral contraceptives โ advise additional contraception.

- ๐งฌ Use with care in hepatic impairment.
โ Contraindications
- ๐ซ Penicillin allergy.
- ๐ซ Previous liver dysfunction associated with flucloxacillin.
๐ฅ Side Effects
- ๐ท Hypersensitivity: anaphylaxis, rash, urticaria, arthralgia.
- ๐งช Hepatitis and cholestatic jaundice (may occur even after stopping the drug).
- ๐ Prolonged use (>14 days) increases risk of cholestatic jaundice.
